Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains one of the most common and severe complications of diabetes mellitus and represents a leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease worldwide. Despite significant advances in the understanding of its pathophysiology, DKD continues to be associated with high morbidity, mortality, and healthcare burden, largely driven by progressive renal impairment and the close interplay with cardiovascular disease.
In recent years, the management of DKD has undergone a profound transformation. Beyond traditional strategies focused on glycemic and blood pressure control, novel pharmacological approaches have demonstrated substantial renal and cardiovascular benefits. At the same time, advances in renal replacement therapies, including hemodialysis optimization and integrated care models, have improved outcomes for patients with advanced disease.
This Special Issue will provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the management and treatment strategies of diabetic kidney disease across its entire clinical spectrum. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and clinical studies addressing, but not limited to, the pathophysiology of DKD, early diagnosis and biomarkers, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, cardiovascular–renal interactions, progression to dialysis, and innovative therapeutic and preventive strategies.
By bringing together contributions from experts in nephrology, diabetology, and related disciplines, this Special Issue will foster multidisciplinary discussion and translate emerging evidence into clinical practice, ultimately improving outcomes for patients with diabetic kidney disease.
We look forward to your valuable contributions.
