Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue, titled "The Role of Endoscopy in the Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Diseases", will present a comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed research, clinical trials, and literature reviews. It will chart the ongoing paradigm shift within gastroenterology, specifically documenting the evolution of endoscopy from a primarily diagnostic modality into a highly advanced, minimally invasive therapeutic discipline.
A major focus is maximizing diagnostic precision. Featured papers will examine newer optical enhancement methods, the practical integration of artificial intelligence for real-time analysis, and updated clinical applications for endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
Furthermore, this Special Issue will explore sophisticated interventional strategies. These include advanced mucosal resection techniques, insights into submucosal tunneling procedures such as Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for severe motility disorders like achalasia, and innovative approaches to managing acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Additionally, this Special Issue will examine the placement of Lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS) to effectively bypass malignant luminal obstructions. We will also explore the innovative approaches helping us to effectively treat the obesity epidemic (endobariatrics).
By connecting benchtop innovation directly to everyday patient care, this Special Issue will showcase a modern landscape where endoscopy handles both detection and treatment. The clinical payoff is clear: earlier diagnoses, fewer open surgeries, and fundamentally better patient recovery.
