Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Metabolic bariatric surgery is an established successful treatment for obesity and metabolic disorders, with long-term benefits extending beyond weight loss to include significant remission of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other comorbidities. MBS is currently evolving, with an overall reduction in peri-operative mortality and surgical complications, the development of new surgical procedures and endoscopic techniques as well as the expansion of robot-assisted surgery that enhances precision and surgical outcomes. The integration of obesity management medications (OMMs), particularly GLP-1 receptor agonists, with surgical approaches represents a new frontier in metabolic treatment. This is an exciting time with the potential for new developments, combination therapies and personalised medicine.

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest advances and emerging trends in bariatric surgery, with a focus on the evolving landscape of combination therapies, personalised treatment strategies, and the integration of surgical and pharmacological interventions. We invite original research and reviews that explore the current state of the art, future directions, and the evolving role of MBS in the comprehensive management of obesity and metabolic disorders. Your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of bariatric care.
