Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The burden of neuropathic pain (NP) is increasing worldwide. NP often goes undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, undermanaged, and mismanaged due to insufficient study and understanding. The prevalence of diseases causing neuropathic pain, such as diabetes, chemotherapy-induced NP, radiotherapy-induced NP, traumatic neuropathic pain, trigeminal neuralgia, multiple sclerosis, cancer, and HIV-associated sensory neuropathy is on the rise globally. Early and accurate assessment of neuropathic pain is crucial for prompt recovery, as delays in diagnosis can lead to poor prognosis. Comprehensive neurological examinations may not always be readily available, particularly for patients in developing regions, where the burden of NP is higher. Therefore, rapid and accurate diagnostic tests that can be administered by primary care providers or patients themselves would be beneficial in addressing this issue. Improved management options can only be developed with a better understanding, diagnosis, and phenotyping of cases. This special collection aims to publish impactful and high-quality studies focusing on the assessment of neuropathic pain and its clinical implications.
