Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Neuropathic pain represents a complex, multifactorial clinical entity that continues to challenge clinicians across neurology, pain medicine, and multidisciplinary care settings. Despite substantial advances in mechanistic understanding—from ion channel dysfunction and central sensitization to neuroimmune interactions—translation into consistently effective, patient-specific therapies remains limited. Conventional treatment paradigms, largely reliant on generalized pharmacologic algorithms, frequently fail to account for the heterogeneity of underlying pathophysiology, resulting in suboptimal outcomes and persistent patient morbidity.

This Special Issue, “Advancing Precision Care in Neuropathic Pain: From Biomarkers to Neuromodulation to Artificial Intelligence”, seeks to bridge this critical gap by emphasizing a precision medicine framework that integrates clinical phenotyping, advanced imaging, neurophysiological assessment, and targeted and novel medication and interventional strategies. Particular focus will be placed on emerging approaches that refine patient selection and optimize therapeutic efficacy, including neuromodulation techniques such as spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation, minimally invasive image-guided interventions, and ultrasound-based diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

We invite contributions that advance clinically actionable knowledge, including prospective trials, real-world observational studies, and systematic reviews. Submissions exploring biomarkers, digital health integration, artificial intelligence in pain stratification, and outcome-driven care models are especially encouraged.

By consolidating contemporary evidence and forward-looking innovations, this Special Issue aims to redefine neuropathic pain management through a paradigm shift toward personalized, mechanism-based care. Our goal is to equip clinicians and researchers with practical strategies that enhance precision, improve functional outcomes, and ultimately reduce the global burden of neuropathic pain.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
