Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, “Oral Autoimmune Diseases: Diagnosis and Clinical Management”, is published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine, an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal of clinical medicine that is published online semi-monthly by MDPI.

There is evidence supporting a steady rise, over the last few decades, in the frequency of autoimmune diseases. The growth in autoimmune diseases equals the surge in allergic and cancer pathology. Oral manifestations of autoimmune disease are frequently the primary signs of such conditions, or the oral region may be the only involved site. A dentist's awareness of the oral manifestations of these diseases is crucial for their detection and subsequent multidisciplinary treatment. Indeed, the therapeutic approach strongly relies on precise and early diagnosis, which enhances the effectiveness of the treatment strategy.

This Special Issue will focus on innovations in the diagnosis, the treatment, and, ultimately, the prevention of oral autoimmune conditions. We welcome the submission of original research and review articles that present results related to the above-mentioned research fields, as well as papers that discuss the findings of pre-clinical studies and clinical trials.

The topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sjögren syndrome;
  • Lupus erythematous;
  • Lichen planus;
  • Behçet’s disease;
  • Recurrent aphthous stomatitis;
  • Pemphigus vulgaris;
  • Mucous membrane pemphigoid.

We invite researchers, including clinicians and scientists working in these fields, to contribute their original work to this Special Issue. We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
