Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Exercise elicits a wide range of molecular, metabolic, and physiological adaptations that shape human performance, health, and physical function. Advances in molecular biology, integrative physiology, sports nutrition, and exercise science have greatly deepened our understanding of the mechanisms underlying these adaptations, spanning intracellular signaling pathways and mitochondrial remodeling to systemic changes in metabolism, recovery, and performance optimization.

Despite substantial progress, key questions remain about how molecular mechanisms, physiological responses, nutritional interventions, and functional outcomes interact. In particular, oxidative stress, redox signaling, mitochondrial function, and metabolic regulation continue to attract considerable scientific interest because of their roles in mediating exercise adaptations. A deeper understanding of these processes is essential to translate mechanistic discoveries into evidence-based strategies that enhance recovery, health, and human performance.

This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in exercise physiology and their implications for human performance across molecular, cellular, integrative, and applied perspectives. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and short communications on topics including exercise metabolism, skeletal muscle physiology, molecular responses to exercise, oxidative stress and redox biology, mitochondrial adaptations, sports nutrition, ergogenic aids, biomarkers of exercise adaptation, recovery strategies, training monitoring, exercise interventions, and athletic performance optimization.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
