Dear Colleagues,
The treatment of complex pathological conditions, ranging from neurodegenerative conditions and neuropsychiatric disorders to cardiac diseases and severe skeletal muscle injuries, remains a clinical challenge because traditional pharmacological interventions have several limitations, including toxicity, rapid degradation, and an inability to effectively cross physiological barriers such as the blood–brain barrier (BBB). Gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-based therapeutics, such as curcumin and taurine with AuNPs, have become a highly versatile and groundbreaking platform to overcome these delivery barriers. This is because of their unique physicochemical properties, surface plasmon resonance, and high biocompatibility, which make them ideal nanocarriers for facilitating tissue-specific accumulation and altering specific gene expression and corresponding protein levels to alleviate these diseases.
Therefore, this Special Issue aims to synthesize cutting-edge research on the development, functionalization, and clinical application of gold nanoparticle-based therapeutics. We invite all kinds of articles, such as original research articles and comprehensive reviews, focusing on AuNPs as targeted drug delivery systems and their role in treating the above-mentioned diseases.
