Dear Colleagues,
Platelet-based biomaterials have emerged as promising tools in regenerative medicine due to their ability to promote tissue repair, modulate inflammation, and support healing processes through the release of growth factors and bioactive molecules. Among these, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), and related platelet concentrates are increasingly being investigated in both human and veterinary medicine for their therapeutic and translational potential. Continuous advances in relation to the preparation protocols, biological characterization, and mechanistic understanding of platelet-based biomaterials are expanding their applications across different medical fields. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for advancing the understanding of the biochemical mechanisms underlying platelet-derived biomaterials and their role in regenerative processes. We welcome original research articles and reviews exploring their biological properties, preparation strategies, and mechanistic pathways, with a strong emphasis on studies that elucidate novel biochemical mechanisms.
Both in vitro studies that uncover cellular and molecular mechanisms, as well as in vivo preclinical investigations and clinical studies, are encouraged to provide a complete translational perspective on their therapeutic potential. Contributions addressing veterinary applications and cross-species translational insights are also highly welcome.
