Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has emerged as a promising and innovative approach in cancer research due to its ability to generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species that can selectively affect cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. Recent advances have demonstrated that CAP can modulate intracellular signaling pathways, induce apoptosis and immunogenic cell death, alter redox homeostasis, and enhance the efficacy of conventional cancer therapies. These findings have positioned plasma medicine as a rapidly growing multidisciplinary field at the interface of plasma physics, molecular biology, and oncology.

We are pleased to invite contributions to this Special Issue, which aims to provide a comprehensive platform for high-quality research on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms underlying CAP–cancer cell interactions.

This Special Issue aims to collect original research articles and authoritative reviews that are fully aligned with the scope of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, with a strong emphasis on molecular pathways, cellular responses, redox biology, DNA damage, immune modulation, and plasma-induced biochemical processes. The goal is to assemble at least ten high-impact contributions, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and advancing the development of plasma-based cancer therapies.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Molecular mechanisms of CAP–cancer cell interactions;
  • Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in plasma oncology;
  • Plasma-induced apoptosis, autophagy, and immunogenic cell death;
  • Redox signaling and oxidative stress in cancer cells;
  • Plasma effects on DNA damage and repair pathways;
  • Plasma-assisted combination cancer therapies;
  • In vitro and in vivo models of plasma medicine;
  • Translational aspects of cold plasma cancer treatment.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
