Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Kidney injury is a major contributor to the global burden of acute and chronic kidney disease and remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although significant progress has been made in understanding the pathophysiology of renal disorders, the molecular events driving kidney injury, maladaptive repair, and disease progression are still not fully understood. Elucidating these mechanisms is essential for identifying novel biomarkers and developing more effective therapeutic strategies.
Recent advances have revealed the involvement of diverse molecular pathways in renal injury, including inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic reprogramming, epigenetic regulation, immune cell activation, fibrosis, and dysregulated tubular transport. In addition, growing evidence highlights the importance of intercellular communication and tissue-specific signaling networks in determining renal susceptibility, repair, and functional recovery following injury.
This Special Issue, “Molecular Mechanisms of Renal Injury”, aims to provide a platform for original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that advance our understanding of the cellular and molecular processes underlying kidney damage. We welcome studies using experimental models, human samples, and translational approaches that identify novel mechanisms, biomarkers, or therapeutic targets involved in acute and chronic kidney diseases.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, tubular injury, glomerular disease, renal inflammation, fibrosis, oxidative stress, mitochondrial biology, cell death pathways, epithelial repair and regeneration, immune–kidney interactions, biomarker discovery, and innovative pharmacological or molecular interventions.
By integrating basic, translational, and clinical research, this Special Issue seeks to foster new insights into the mechanisms of renal injury and promote the development of precision therapies for kidney disease.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
