Award FAQ

1. What awards does MDPI offer?

MDPI offers flagship awards such as the World Sustainability Award, Emerging Sustainability Leader Award, Tu Youyou Award, Michele Parrinello Award, and the Tang Youqi Award, along with a series of journal awards. The journal awards include the Outstanding Reviewer Award, Best Paper Award, Best PhD Thesis Award, Travel Award, and Young Investigator Award. 2. Can I apply for multiple awards simultaneously?

Yes, you can submit applications as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for the respective awards. Please note that separate applications must be submitted for different awards.

3. Are there any limits on the number of applications/nominations?

Yes. For awards of the same type, each candidate may submit a maximum of 5 applications/nominations within a single calendar year. Once this limit is reached, the system will not accept further submissions for that year.

4. How do I submit an application/nomination?

You can submit applications/nominations through the following two official channels:
  1. Via the specific journal page:
    • Go to the journal's official website.
    • In the main menu, select the "Awards" option under "About".
    • Navigate to the award details page and click the "Apply/Nominate" button;
    • Fill out the form, upload the required materials, and click submit.
  2. Via the awards overview page:
    • Visit the MDPI Awards overview page (https://www.mdpi.com/awards).
    • Select the award you wish to apply for from the "Open" list.
    • Click the "Apply" button and complete the online form.
    • Upload the necessary documents and confirm submission.
    • If you encounter any issues during the process, please email the journal's editorial office corresponding to the award.

5. Can I modify my application after it has been submitted?

Yes. Before the application deadline, if you need to modify a submitted application, you can do so in either of the following ways:
  1. Update independently: Visit the award application interface, re-fill and resubmit the application.
  2. Contact the Editorial Office: Send the specific changes to be made via email to the journal's editorial office corresponding to the award.

6. What are the format or content requirements for recommendation letters?

Recommendation letters should preferably be on the official letterhead of the recommender's institution and personally signed by the recommender. They should focus on the main academic achievements of the applicant/nominee and the reasons for their deserving the award.

7. What are the format and size limits for supporting documents (e.g., publications, supplementary materials)?

PDF, Word, and Zip formats are all acceptable. The size of a single file should not exceed 10MB.

8. How can I confirm my application/nomination was successfully submitted?

A prompt will show up on the page once submission is completed. Additionally, you will receive an automatic confirmation email from the system. If you do not receive it, please check your spam folder or contact the journal's editorial office corresponding to the award.

9. Which time zone is used for award application and announcement deadlines?

All award applications/nominations and announcements are subject to Swiss time at 23:59 (CET/UTC+1, CEST/UTC+2 during daylight saving time).
