Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advanced electromechanical energy conversion systems and supporting power infrastructure are essential to ensuring an uninterrupted flow of electrical energy that meets the constantly growing demands of consumers. Globally, the focus is on clean energy production, high efficiency, and system reliability and stability, taking into account the impact of stochastic inputs from renewable sources.

Rapid progress in multiphysics numerical modelling, digital-twin virtual prototyping, novel magnetic and insulation materials, and the consideration of interactions with power converters is reshaping the design and control of electrical machines. Maximising efficiency, mitigating operational stresses, and extending asset life now depend on AI-driven condition monitoring, predictive diagnostics, and sustainable life-cycle management.

This Special Issue invites original research and review papers, including submissions from authors of selected post-conference papers presented at the 2nd International Colloquium Power Generation and Electromechanical Energy Conversion (ICPGEEC 2027), that address the challenges and emerging solutions in modern power systems and electromechanical energy conversion. We welcome contributions spanning theoretical advances, computational modelling, novel materials, and practical field implementations that promote clean energy generation, grid stability, and e-mobility.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  1. Multiphysics design and modelling, digital twins, and optimisation of electrical machines.
  2. Operational behaviour, fast-switching insulation stress, loss optimisation, and EMI/bearing current mitigation in converter-fed electrical machines.
  3. Large power generators, industrial motors, synchronous compensators, and excitation control: testing, commissioning, revitalisation, and grid support.
  4. Sensor-based condition monitoring, AI-driven predictive diagnostics, remaining life prognosis, and asset refurbishment, retrofitting, and uprating.
  5. Renewable and hybrid power generation: microgrids, battery integration, grid code compliance, and life-cycle sustainability.
  6. High-power-density traction drives for e-mobility, battery and fuel cell electro-thermal management, charging infrastructure, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) dynamics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
