Dear Colleagues,

In this Special Issue, the nexus between clean affordable energies and other sustainable development goals will be covered. Renewable energies, energy systems, innovative management approaches, and other areas of sustainable energies can be targeted. Special attention is devoted to social, economic, ecological, and political aspects of sustainability. The authors are encouraged to discuss the impacts of recent energy-oriented global issues, such as pandemics, wars, and conflicts, on earlier sustainable development plans and the future of sustainability.

The Arctic region is well-known as a source of energy and mineral resources. Developing these resources by means of responsible practices could provide the world’s economy with strategically and critically important types of minerals. As a result, the role of the Arctic’s resource potential and the approaches used to develop it are gradually changing. In current conditions, it is crucial to strike a balance between existing needs and long-term demand for traditional energy sources or critical materials, such as rare and rare-earth minerals. Achieving this balance will result in sustainable growth, meeting ESG agenda targets while considering national security priorities, and devising novel approaches to sustainable project financing. However, there is controversy between existing strategies and plans based on low-carbon development and reality, which creates new macroeconomic and geopolitical obstacles that need to be overcome. The primary goal of this research is to substantiate the necessity of transforming the Russian Arctic’s mineral resource exploration in the context of global and national changes. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the contemporary trends and tendencies influencing the exploration of the Arctic’s resources, as well as a general vision of the current situation in the energy sector. Research methods include content analysis and synthesis, generalization, decomposition, elements of strategic analysis, planning and forecasting, statistical methods, econometric modeling methods, and scenario planning. An upgraded concept of sustainable development based on six key components is proposed and discussed. Recommendations are provided on how to improve the existing system of long-term planning and forecasting to reduce the high level of macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. The role of Russian Artic resources is determined in light of the shift in resource use. Full article

The system presented in this paper can change the energy storage landscape by having the advantages of a compressed air storage system and pump storage, as well as minimizing the disadvantages of these two systems. One of the advantages of this system compared to similar systems is the lack of combustion of natural gas. Correspondingly, for construction, it does not require specific specifications for the executive site, and control of the energy and heat of the system (due to the use of water as an operational fluid) is easier than similar systems. In addition, this system is very scalable and can be designed in low capacities to high capacities, energy analysis of this research to identify the basic and effective parameters of the system and determine the limitations and relationships between them. The amount of energy saved in the current research system compared to previous research is significant, and 92% efficiency can be achieved. The energy analysis of this research determined the effect of the parameters on each other and their limitations so that the path of its feasibility design was paved. Full article

Household energy consumption is influenced by a variety of factors, including climate, demographics, and socio-economic conditions. This study is a review based on clustering analysis of data from the 2019 Household Budget Survey in Turkey, and explores the role of dwelling structure, household habits, and possessions as indicators of energy patterns and preferences within distinct household groups contributing to Sustainable Development Goals 1, 7, and 12. The data analysis identifies three distinct clusters with specific features that set them apart. The Urban Majority cluster represents densely populated urban areas where natural gas is a preferred fuel source, and parquet and ceramic tiles are common flooring materials. The Deprived-like Remote Residents cluster portrays areas with less access to natural gas, where wood and coal are frequently used for heating, and the Urban Comfort-Seekers cluster highlights urban areas with high comfort levels, featuring natural gas, floor heating, and various amenities. These clusters reflect energy consumption patterns and social aspects related to poverty and habits. They indicate that Turkey’s energy preferences are closely linked to accessibility, user-friendliness, and affordability. Urban households prioritize comfort, while rural areas are more resource-constrained, and contextual factors like location and possessions play a vital role in energy preferences. Full article
