Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Power distribution networks are undergoing a profound transformation driven by the rapid integration of renewable energy resources, distributed energy resources, energy storage systems, electric vehicles, advanced power electronic interfaces, and emerging digital technologies. At the same time, distribution networks are increasingly exposed to extreme weather events, equipment failures, cyber threats, operational uncertainties, and other disturbances that can compromise the reliability and continuity of electricity supply. Consequently, enhancing the resilience of power distribution networks has become a critical research priority for ensuring secure, reliable, flexible, and sustainable power delivery.

This Special Issue focuses on the latest advances, emerging technologies, methodologies, and practical applications related to the resilience, modernization, and evolution of power distribution networks. Contributions addressing theoretical developments, computational methods, experimental validation, and real-world applications are particularly encouraged.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Resilience assessment and enhancement of power distribution networks;
  • Evolution and modernization of distribution networks;
  • Active and adaptive distribution networks;
  • Renewable energy integration and distributed energy resources;
  • Energy storage systems and resilience-oriented operation;
  • Distribution system reconfiguration and self-healing networks;
  • Resilient protection and fault management;
  • Extreme weather events and climate-resilient distribution systems;
  • Cyber–physical resilience and cybersecurity of distribution networks;
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning for resilient power systems;
  • Data-driven resilience assessment and decision-making;
  • Digital twins and digitalization of distribution networks;
  • Advanced distribution management systems;
  • Distributed energy resources management systems;
  • Electric vehicles and vehicle-to-grid technologies for network resilience;
  • Distributed and decentralized control of distribution networks;
  • Inverter-based resources and grid-forming technologies;
  • Resilient planning, operation, and asset management;
  • Uncertainty and stochastic operation of distribution networks;
  • Blockchain and distributed technologies for resilient energy systems;
  • Restoration strategies and post-disturbance recovery;
  • Resilience-oriented optimization and energy management;
  • Emerging technologies for future distribution networks.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
