Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
A cooling tower is the core piece of equipment of the industrial heat-exchange system, which disperses the waste heat generated in the industrial or refrigeration process into the atmosphere through water evaporation (evaporative heat dissipation) or air convection (sensible heat dissipation). The design, operation, and utilization of cooling towers encompass multiple disciplines, including fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, multi-phase flow science, and control engineering. Cooling towers have been widely used in power generation, petrochemicals, HVAC, and other fields, and confront challenges related to energy efficiency, environmental protection, and operational stability. Current research and technological advancements focus on energy efficiency improvement, water saving and environmental protection, novel material application, intelligent management, and so on. Through technological innovations, the cooling tower is evolving from traditional high energy consumption equipment to comprehensive, efficient, green, and intelligent equipment. With features changing from passive heat dissipation to active energy saving and from single function operation to multi-function integration, the advanced cooling towers will significantly contribute to the sustainable development of industry.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to the theory, design, modeling, optimization, application, and control of all types of industrial cooling towers.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
Energy efficiency optimization and low carbon technology, including high-efficiency heat and mass transfer design, new filler structures and structure optimization, aerodynamic optimization, heat transfer enhancement, high-efficiency air-cooled radiators, optimal radiator arrangement, waste heat recovery, carbon capture integration, and intelligent control.
Water conservation and environmental protection technology, including dry cooling towers, hybrid (dry/wet) cooling towers, environmentally friendly water treatment, zero discharge of wastewater, and drifting water suppression.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
