Dear Colleagues,
The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources in electrical distribution systems is transforming the operation, planning, and control of modern power networks. The transition toward cleaner and more decentralized energy systems introduces new technical challenges associated with power quality, operational flexibility, reliability, optimal planning, and energy management. At the same time, advances in optimization techniques, artificial intelligence, smart grid technologies, and power electronics are creating new opportunities to improve the integration and performance of renewable-based distribution systems.
Following the success of the first edition of this Special Issue, which gathered high-quality contributions from researchers worldwide, this second edition aims to continue promoting innovative research related to renewable energy development in distribution networks. Particular attention will be given to optimization, assessment, design, operation, and control methodologies for renewable energy plants and distributed energy resources.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, optimal operation and planning of distribution networks, microgrids, smart grids, renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, electric vehicles, demand response strategies, power quality improvement, distributed generation, artificial intelligence applications in power systems, energy management systems, resilience enhancement, and advanced optimization techniques for modern electrical networks.
For this Special Issue, we welcome the contribution of original research articles and review papers addressing theoretical developments, practical implementations, case studies, computational methodologies, and emerging technologies that contribute to the sustainable evolution of future energy systems.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
