Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid evolution of edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) is profoundly transforming our interaction with smart devices and systems in real time. Edge computing enables processing close to the data source, resulting in faster, more efficient responses, while IoT connects a broad ecosystem of interconnected devices, from industrial sensors to smart home devices.

In this rapidly evolving field, we invite researchers and experts to contribute to our upcoming Special Issue, entitled “Edge Computing and Internet of Things: Challenges and Opportunities". This Special Issue aims to showcase innovative research, methodologies, and applications that leverage edge computing in the context of IoT.

Potential topics for submission include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Case studies and successful examples of edge computing and IoT applications in various sectors.
  2. Security and privacy in IoT and edge computing environments.
  3. Communication protocols and networks optimized for edge-connected IoT devices.
  4. Edge computing architectures and models to support distributed IoT applications.
  5. Practical applications in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge to optimize IoT systems.
  6. Solutions to improve energy efficiency and sustainability in edge and IoT systems.
  7. Standards and protocols to enhance interoperability and scalability in IoT and edge computing environments.

Submissions should present original research, reviews, or conceptual frameworks that contribute to the advancement of edge and IoT technologies. We welcome both theoretical and practical contributions, with an emphasis on real-world applications and experimental validations.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
