Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the rapid evolution of intelligent hardware, information security technologies, and the Internet of Things (IoT), contemporary electronic systems are increasingly characterized by high connectivity, intelligence, and data-centric operation. These advances have enabled a broad spectrum of applications, including smart cities, intelligent transportation systems, industrial automation, healthcare monitoring, and cyber–physical systems. However, the growing complexity and scale of such systems are also giving rise to critical challenges related to system reliability, data privacy, security assurance, and scalable deployment. Effectively addressing these challenges necessitates coordinated research efforts that integrate hardware design, embedded intelligence, communication architectures, and security mechanisms.
This Special Issue focuses on intelligent hardware-enabled IoT systems and their associated information security technologies, with an emphasis on both theoretical developments and practical implementations. The scope of this collection encompasses, but is not limited to, smart and embedded hardware platforms, edge and fog computing architectures, secure sensing and data acquisition techniques, IoT communication protocols, privacy-preserving data processing, trusted computing frameworks, and AI-enabled security mechanisms. Contributions that explore cross-layer design methodologies, hardware–software co-optimization, and system-level integration are particularly encouraged.
The primary objective of this Special Issue is to provide a comprehensive forum for researchers and practitioners to disseminate recent advances, identify emerging trends, and present innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the intelligence, security, and robustness of IoT systems. By bringing together contributions from multiple disciplines, including electronics engineering, computer science, and information security, this collection seeks to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and facilitate the effective translation of research outcomes into practical applications.
Existing studies often examine intelligent hardware, IoT architectures, and information security as largely independent research domains. In contrast, this Special Issue aims to bridge these areas by emphasizing integrated approaches that jointly address hardware intelligence and security requirements across the entire system lifecycle. By highlighting system-level perspectives, real-world deployment challenges, and emerging application scenarios, the collection is intended to complement and extend the current body of literature, offering valuable insights for both academic researchers and industry professionals.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
