Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Electronics seeks to present original research exploring how advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP) are transforming the study, analysis, modelling and preservation of humanity’s digital and historical heritage.

As digital archives, texts, and unstructured data grow exponentially, NLP is becoming an important tool for scholars and researchers in the humanities. This Special Issue delves into the latest developments, applications, and challenges associated with the integration of NLP into disciplines such as history, linguistics, literature, cultural studies, and more. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Text Mining and Historical Analysis: Exploring how NLP techniques are uncovering hidden patterns in historical records, revolutionizing our understanding of the past.
  • Sentiment and Emotion Analysis: Exploring how computational tools are being used to decode emotional and cultural nuances in literary works, speeches, and social media archives.
  • Multilingual and Cross-Cultural Studies: Discovering how NLP is bridging language barriers and fostering global collaboration in humanities research.
  • Preservation and Digitization: Gaining insights into how NLP supports the curation and accessibility of digital archives and endangered languages.
  • Ethics and Bias in NLP: Engaging with critical discussions on fairness, transparency, and inclusivity when employing NLP tools in humanities research.

Whether you are a seasoned researcher, a digital humanities practitioner, or simply curious about the transformative power of AI in humanistic studies, this Special Issue offers valuable perspectives and actionable insights. Each article is peer-reviewed and designed to be accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences, fostering a dialogue between technology and humanities scholars.
