Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electric motors and their drive systems are at the heart of the ongoing transformation toward electrified transportation, renewable energy integration, industrial automation, and sustainable manufacturing. As performance demands intensify—higher power density, wider operating range, improved efficiency, and stringent reliability—conventional design and control paradigms are increasingly reaching their limits. This Special Issue brings together researchers and practitioners to explore the frontier where advanced electrical machine design converges with intelligent, data-driven control.

The session welcomes contributions spanning both novel machine design and advanced control. Topics of interest include new motor topologies and materials, high power- and torque-density machines, and multi-physics and AI-assisted design optimization, as well as intelligent control strategies such as model predictive control, sensorless and fault-tolerant drives, machine-learning-based control, digital-twin-enabled operation, and condition monitoring. Contributions that co-design the machine and its controller—optimizing them jointly rather than sequentially—are especially encouraged.

We invite original research, and forward-looking review papers spanning automotive, aerospace, industrial, and renewable-energy applications. The session seeks to identify emerging challenges, share benchmark results, and promote collaboration across the machine-design and control-engineering communities, ultimately accelerating the development of the next generation of efficient, intelligent, and reliable motor drive systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
