Education Sciences Webinar | Critical Pedagogy and Climate Justice Ⅱ
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for joining our webinar. It is with a sense of growing urgency, and right after the hottest summer on record, that we are glad to host a discussion around a Special Issue of Education Sciences focused on the links between critical pedagogy and climate justice.
With discussions about climate justice gaining momentum, it is imperative that critical educators re-evaluate, broaden, and rearticulate the Freirean project and its long-standing concerns with social justice in order to strongly reconnect with the lived ecologies of the oppressed.
This is particularly important as discourses on environmentalism and environmental education risk otherwise being subsumed in the neoliberal, neo-colonial technocratic status quo, in a sort of “pedagogical greenwashing”, while opportunities for radical social and educational transformation become foreclosed. The aim of this Special Issue is therefore to broaden the scope and space of critical pedagogical discourse and the development of related ideas.
Through this webinar, we will discuss more in-depth the urgency of this call and initiate a conversation with potential authors.
Acknowledging the ongoing material imbalances shaping the global publishing ecosystem, we will also dedicate substantial attention to the rationale for having an Open Access issue, and what we believe is an equitable compromise in terms of funding and access.
