Dear Colleagues,
Various retinal diseases are the leading causes of blindness, but diabetic retinopathy is the only cause of blindness that has shown an increasing trend in age-standardized prevalence in many world regions from 1990 to 2020. However, advances in imaging modalities and new therapeutic agents have revolutionized the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of retinal conditions. Imaging advances have provided big image datasets for applying artificial intelligence technology, particularly deep learning, in retinal diseases. The clinical application of this technology has emerged. Nevertheless, further research is needed to evaluate deep learning models' reproducibility, generalizability, and ethical considerations in the real world. We encourage researchers to submit their papers on the real-world application of deep learning systems for the detection, classification, or prediction of retinal diseases.

Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
