Dear Colleagues,
Advanced ceramics exhibit outstanding high-temperature resistance, chemical inertness and excellent functional properties. This renders them irreplaceable for the fields of aerospace, new energy powder devices, semiconductor components and extreme-environment equipment and so on. Nevertheless, inherent brittleness and mismatched thermal and physical performance between ceramics and dissimilar materials severely restrict the service durability of integrated composite structures. The interfacial microstructure, phase evolution and residual stress distribution dominate mechanical properties, functional performance and long-term reliability of bonding between ceramics and heterogeneous materials or ceramics and their coating layers. Thus, interface regulation becomes a core bottleneck restricting the large-scale engineering application of advanced ceramics.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to the regulation of ceramics/dissimilar materials interface or ceramics/coating layers interface. Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Regulation of joining interface between ceramic–ceramic, ceramic–metal and ceramic–polymer via brazing, diffusion bonding, laser welding, field-assisted bonding and so on.
- Interfacial optimization of functional or protective ceramic coatings, together with interfacial debonding and failure mechanisms.
- In situ interfacial modification, multi-scale interface characterization, numerical simulation of interfacial stress and performance evolution.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
