Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrochemical materials and thin films are essential for the development of advanced technologies in sensing, energy storage and conversion, environmental monitoring, corrosion protection, electrocatalysis, and functional coatings. The performance of these systems is strongly influenced by their microstructural characteristics, including morphology, crystallinity, porosity, defects, interfaces, thickness, and surface chemistry. This Special Issue, “Advanced Electrochemical Materials and Thin Films: Microstructural Design and Performance”, aims to garner high-quality original research articles and review papers focused on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of electroactive materials and thin films. Particular emphasis will be placed on studies that establish clear correlations between microstructural features, electrochemical behavior, and overall device or material performance.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: nanostructured electrochemical materials, metal oxides, carbon-based materials, graphene and related materials, hybrid nanocomposites, functional thin films, modified electrodes, electrochemical sensors, electrocatalytic systems, photoelectrochemical materials, corrosion-resistant coatings, and materials for energy and environmental applications.

We welcome contributions that combine innovative synthesis strategies, advanced structural and surface characterization, and electrochemical evaluation, providing deeper insights into structure–property–performance relationships in electrochemical materials and thin-film systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
