Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue “Novel Optical Thin Films and Advanced Coatings” aims to publish original research articles or comprehensive reviews on novel developments in the field of advanced coatings and smart thin films for different applications.

Smart optical thin films and coatings are becoming some of the most important materials in science and technology and a cornerstone for innovation in electronics, energy, and biomedical sectors. In this Special Issue, we aim to present valuable findings regarding novel thin films and advanced coatings. The novel optical thin films and coatings have many industrial applications. They are essential for Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays, wearable physical, physiological and biochemical sensors, thin film photovoltaics, light modification and manipulation, light control. The 2D luminescent materials with tunable optoelectronic properties are also of great interest for advancements in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), lasers, and biosensing.

Considering your prominent contribution to this state of the art research topic, I would like to cordially invite you to submit an article to this Special Issue. Original research articles and review articles, discussing the latest findings in the field of novel optical thin films and coatings are welcome.

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest advancements in the development of novel optical thin films and advanced coatings and their applications. In particular, the topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Thin films and coatings for photonics applications
  • Optical thin films and coatings for medical applications
  • Optical thin films and coatings for energy applications
  • Light-modifying films and coatings
  • Optical coatings to control light reflection, transmission, and absorption
  • Thin films and coatings with tunable properties
  • 2D luminescent materials
  • Thin film photovoltaics
  • Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
