Recent Advances in Self-Cleaning Coatings for Anti-Icing Applications

Dear Colleagues,

The strong adhesion of ice to all kinds of surfaces is a serious concern in cold countries. To reduce the problems caused by icing, some traditional anti/de-icing methods are executed. Currently, the passive traditional methods such as electro-thermal, air-thermal, mechanical and manual, and liquid hybrid approaches, etc., were employed for anti/de-icing. The electro-thermal anti/de-icing method utilizes additional electro-heat sources to prevent ice and snow from adhering to the surface or to melt the ice and snow already adhered to the surface.

Although researchers around the world have been carrying out research for decades in order to find a solution to this problem of ice adhesion, the literature is relatively inadequate in this field.

The Special Issue provides a forum for the basic aspects, theories, and mechanisms of the prevention and delaying of ice formation and deals with applications in all areas of technology.

This Special Issue aims to expose the state of the art regarding ice adhesion, and papers on this topic may include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Bioinspired anti-icing coatings;
• Superhydrophobic coatings with reduced ice adhesion;
• Recent advances in functional polymer composite coatings for anti-icing applications;
• Surface textured against anti-icing;
• Recent developments in industrial-developed anti-icing paint systems;
• Surface and coating technology for anti-corrosion and anti-icing applications;
• Modeling and simulation of anti-icing coatings
