Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the growing demand for energy storage and conversion, the modification of surface and interface coatings plays an important role in enhancing the performance of energy storage and conversion devices. This Special Issue will focus on the surface and interface modification of coatings for electrochemical applications, from fundamental research to the development of applications. It discusses the relationship between novel surface and interface modification approaches, materials and electrochemical performance, and the application and future development of various energy storage and conversion systems (lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, lithium–sulfur batteries, zinc-ion batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, etc.).

Advanced coatings play a vital role in enhancing the performance of electrochemical energy storage and conversion by improving conductivity and facilitate better interaction between reactants and surfaces. Additionally, advancements in coatings can significantly impact energy storage and conversion technologies, including batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells, by optimizing material interfaces and enhancing electrochemical behaviors.

We are pleased to invite you to submit your research or review to this Special Issue. The scope of this Special Issue covers a range of topics related to coatings in electrochemical energy storage and conversion materials such as those listed below:

  • Novel catalysts for electrochemical reactions, such as oxygen reduction reaction, water splitting, synthesis of ammonia, and CO2RR;
  • Advanced energy storage materials, including batteries, supercapacitors, and hydrogen storage systems;
  • Surface modification techniques that enhance electrochemical performance through improved stability and reactivity;
  • Advanced coatings for key components in electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems;
  • Fundamental understanding of electrochemical processes and mechanisms.

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest research in coatings and novel advances in electrochemical surfaces and interfaces for energy storage, conversion and catalysis.

We seek contributions that explore innovative materials, surface and interface modification techniques, and electrochemical mechanisms that address current limitations and push the frontiers of energy storage and conversion technology.

The aim is to have a collection of at least 10 articles, and the Special Issue may be printed in book form if this number is reached.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
