Dear Colleagues,
Neuroinflammatory processes are a hallmark of many central nervous system conditions. Neuroinflammation can involve central and peripheral immune cell populations, as well as interaction between them. Conventional knowledge suggests that it is universally detrimental. Neuroinflammation was believed to result from an imbalance of pro- and anti-inflammatory cells and mediators, which were often seen as dichotomous. However, a more detailed understanding of the complexity of neuroinflammatory processes has emerged, putting them into the specific context of individual conditions. This helps to identify promising new diagnostic approaches and therapeutic targets.
This Special Issue aims to summarize recent findings on cellular and non-cellular elements of neuroinflammation in the context of cerebrovascular, neurodegenerative, autoimmune and neoplastic central nervous system disorders. Original contributions will be considered, including those describing novel methodological approaches, as well as high-quality review articles. This Special Issue specifically welcomes articles focusing on translationally relevant aspects and strategies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
