Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The age-related decline in skeletal muscle health is a major cause of reduced mobility and disability. A critical step toward developing effective interventions is a deeper understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms.

This decline is characterized by a progressive loss of muscle mass and function, driven largely by mitochondrial dysfunction and impaired regenerative capacity. This Special Issue will explore how mitochondrial integrity, quality control, and associated signaling pathways dictate cellular function and repair processes. We invite the submission of original research and review articles. This Special Issue will elucidate these fundamental mechanisms and translate these insights into innovative strategies to counteract muscle wasting and enhance regeneration in aging populations.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
