Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Emerging immunotherapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), dendritic cell vaccines, and CAR-T cell therapies, have revolutionized cancer management by boosting anti-tumor immune responses. Despite their remarkable oncological effects, these treatments are associated with an increased risk of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), particularly cardiovascular sequela such as myocarditis, arrhythmia, heart failure, and atherosclerosis. While the exact mechanisms that drive interplay between immunotherapies and the cardiovascular system are incompletely understood, there is increasing recognition of the roles of the innate and adaptive immune system in disease pathogenesis.

This special issue aims to advance the understanding of immunotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity by collecting experimental studies. We particularly welcome investigations exploring the cardiac immune landscape, pathogenic molecular and cellular pathways, immune cell phenotype and crosstalk, and immune–stromal cell crosstalk using multi-omics approaches including single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics. Comprehensive review articles addressing the mechanisms, diagnosis, biomarkers, imaging, and management of immunotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity are also encouraged. Importantly, the scope is not limited to myocarditis. By uniting oncologists, cardiologists, and immunologists, this special issue seeks to define the cardiac immune landscape, translational targets to predict, prevent, and treat immunotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, and improve the safety and efficacy of cancer immunotherapies.
