Dear Colleagues,
GABAA receptors are principal mediators of fast inhibitory neurotransmission in the mammalian brain and are essential for maintaining the balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition. Their proper function is intrinsically linked to dynamic cellular processes, including biogenesis, protein quality control (proteostasis), and trafficking mechanisms that dictate their localization and composition on the neuronal surface. Disruption in these dynamic cellular processes, often resulting from genetic variants or impaired proteostasis, is increasingly recognized as a key driver of neurological and psychiatric disorders, such as epilepsy, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, and schizophrenia.
This Special Issue of Cells, GABAA Receptor Dynamics: From Cellular Quality Control to Disease Mechanisms, invites original research articles and reviews focused on the molecular and cellular regulation of GABAA receptors. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, receptor folding, receptor assembly, protein quality control, degradation pathways, membrane trafficking, receptor structure and function, and the impact of genetic and disease-associated perturbations. By bringing together new insights across disciplines, this issue aims to deepen our understanding of GABAA receptor biology and its relevance to brain health and disease.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
