Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The classical view of organelles as isolated compartments has been fundamentally overturned. We now appreciate the eukaryotic cell as a complex, integrated system where organelles like the ER, mitochondria, Golgi, and lysosomes continuously communicate through membrane contact sites and vesicular trafficking. This intricate crosstalk is not merely a background process; it is a central regulatory mechanism that controls calcium signaling, lipid metabolism, proteostasis, and cell fate decisions. Disruptions in this delicate dialogue are increasingly linked to pathologies ranging from neurodegeneration to cancer and metabolic syndromes.

This Special Issue seeks to highlight the latest breakthroughs in understanding the mechanisms and functions of organelle communication. We are particularly interested in studies that employ innovative approaches, including high-resolution live-cell imaging and organelle-specific proteomics, as well as novel biosensors and computational models, to decode these intracellular conversations. We invite the submission of original research articles and insightful reviews that explore the dynamic interplay between organelles in health and disease. By bringing together diverse perspectives, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of cellular organization and identify novel therapeutic targets.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
