Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The growing presence of artificial intelligence in medicine has begun to reshape the way we diagnose, stage, and treat head and neck cancer. What once seemed like a distant technological frontier has quickly become an integral part of modern clinical care. These tools are improving how we interpret imaging, analyze pathology, predict outcomes, and guide treatment decisions. Most importantly, they are helping us deliver more precise and thoughtful care to our patients.
Head and neck cancer has always demanded a high level of clinical judgment because of the complexity of the anatomy and the importance of preserving speech, swallowing, and appearance. Artificial intelligence now supports us in many of these decisions. Advances in imaging allow for more accurate diagnostic evaluation and staging. Digital pathology platforms are enhancing the way we interpret histologic features. Predictive and prognostic models are offering insights that go well beyond traditional clinical factors. New approaches in treatment planning are helping us tailor therapies more carefully and assess responses more reliably. Emerging tools also provide a better understanding of functional outcomes, an area that is especially meaningful for this patient population.
There is also tremendous promise in combining information from multiple sources, including imaging, pathology, genomics, and clinical data. These multimodal approaches may ultimately bring us closer to true precision care. As these technologies grow, it is equally important to address the practical questions of implementation, ethics, equity, and everyday clinical integration.
This Special Issue, titled “Artificial Intelligence Across the Head and Neck Cancer Care Continuum”, will highlight these developments and provide a broad overview of how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of head and neck cancer care. We welcome submissions that advance any of these areas, from focused studies on imaging or pathology to comprehensive reviews that will help drive this field forward.
Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
