Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to invite you to contribute to a forthcoming Special Issue of Cancers, dedicated to the Intersection of Tobacco Use and Cancer Care. Cancers is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on oncology. It publishes article types including Research Papers, Reviews, Editorials, Communications, etc.

This Special Issue will emphasize the importance of prevention and cessation interventions as a core component of oncology treatment. Although the risks of continued tobacco use, including smoking, are well documented, many cancer patients, particularly in low-and middle-income countries, still use tobacco products, which can compromise treatment effectiveness and survival.

This Special Issue will feature work that examines tobacco use prevalence in cancer populations, barriers to the implementation of prevention and cessation interventions tailored to the unique needs of patients with cancer, and policy-level strategies aimed at integrating tobacco control into oncology care systems across the globe. We are also keen to highlight the challenges in low-resource settings, where access to evidence-based and cost-effective prevention and cessation services is often limited or unavailable. By integrating clinical, behavioral, and policy perspectives, this collection will aim to advance more equitable and comprehensive approaches to tobacco prevention and cessation in oncology settings worldwide.

Important Dates:

  • Preliminary 250-word summary/abstract submission deadline: 31 December 2026 (for initial evaluation)
  • Final manuscript deadline: 15 March 2027

I look forward to your contributions to this timely and important Special Issue. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or ideas for submissions.
