Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is the second edition of "Imaging and Liquid Biopsy Biomarkers for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment".

Biomarkers are essential for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Both imaging and liquid biopsy are noninvasive methods that can repeatedly extract quantitative biomarkers. Liquid biopsy involves testing blood and other bodily fluids for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. In the past, imaging has primarily been used to measure tumor size. Recently, radiomics along with machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods have been developed to study tumor heterogeneity. Imaging focuses on measuring tumor extent and heterogeneity, while liquid biopsy detects tumor-derived molecules in circulation. In this Special Issue, we invite manuscripts that report work combining both imaging and liquid biopsy to diagnose or treat various types of cancer. Imaging modalities include, but are not limited to, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray imaging, computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, and nuclear medicine scans. Liquid biopsy comprises tests that can evaluate circulating tumor cells (CTCs), disseminated tumor cells (DTCs), and circulating tumor DNA or RNA (ctDNA or ctRNA). We welcome original research articles or comprehensive reviews focusing on the combination of quantitative imaging and liquid biopsy biomarkers for cancer detection, staging, prognosis, or monitoring treatment response.

In the second edition of this Special Issue, we also welcome articles that include tissue-based biomarkers. We are especially interested in combining tissue-based biomarkers with imaging and liquid biopsy biomarkers to interpret or enhance the understanding of the test results.
