Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recent advances in personalized healthcare and point-of-care diagnostics are driving increasing demand for biosensing platforms that provide rapid, sensitive, and reliable detection in compact and portable formats. Field-effect transistor (FET)-based biosensors have attracted considerable attention in this context because their electrical characteristics can be directly modulated by biological and chemical interactions occurring at the sensing interface.

This Special Issue of Biosensors aims to highlight recent advances in “Advanced Field-Effect Transistor Biosensors and Their Applications”. The scope of this publication includes includes, but is not limited to, novel FET biosensor architectures, semiconductor and sensing materials, surface and interface functionalization, electrolyte- and ion-sensitive transistors, flexible and wearable biosensors, microfluidic integration, and portable sensing platforms. Studies addressing biomolecular detection, device sensitivity and selectivity, stability, reliability, and practical operation in biological environments are also encouraged.

This Special Issue of Biosensors aims to highlight recent advances in FET-based biosensors and their applications in point-of-care and wearable sensing systems. We welcome original research articles, short communications, and comprehensive review articles covering, but not limited to:

  • FET-based biosensor architectures, including BioFETs, ISFETs, and electrolyte-gated transistors;
  • Semiconductor and sensing materials, including silicon, oxide, organic, 2D, and hybrid materials;
  • Surface and interface functionalization for selective biomolecular detection;
  • Flexible, wearable, and portable biosensing platforms;
  • Microfluidic and point-of-care integration;
  • Therapeutic monitoring and theragnostic platforms, including FET-assisted drug monitoring, controlled drug delivery, and closed-loop sensing–delivery systems;
  • Device performance and reliability, including sensitivity, selectivity, stability, drift, and reproducibility;
  • Biomedical and healthcare applications, including biomarkers, metabolite, pathogen, and pharmaceutical monitoring.

This Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for sharing recent progress from materials and device engineering to practical biosensing applications, while highlighting emerging directions toward accessible and reliable healthcare technologies.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
