Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I hope this message finds you well.

As Guest Editor of an upcoming Special Issue in Biomolecules, I cordially invite you and your colleagues to submit manuscripts focusing on the development and application of Digital Twins in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research. Digital twins, which create dynamic computational replicas of biological systems, are rapidly transforming how we understand disease mechanisms, predict therapeutic outcomes, and design more effective and personalized interventions. With advances in artificial intelligence, multi-omics integration, and computational modeling, digital twin frameworks are emerging as powerful tools across the biomedical sciences.

This Special Issue aims to highlight recent innovations and emerging applications of digital twin technologies across a wide spectrum of biomedical and pharmaceutical domains. We welcome contributions addressing topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Digital twin models for drug efficacy prediction and therapeutic optimization;
  • ADMET modeling and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) simulation;
  • Digital twin frameworks for clinical trial design, patient recruitment, and virtual patient cohorts;
  • Integration of multi-omics data, AI/ML, and new approach methods (NAMs) in digital twin platforms;
  • Applications in cancer research, tumor modeling, and personalized medicine;
  • Translational applications bridging computational models with experimental or clinical data;
  • Ethical, regulatory, and technical challenges in digital twin deployment in healthcare.

We invite submissions in the form of original research articles, review articles, and short perspectives that provide new insights, methodological advances, or critical evaluations of this rapidly evolving field. Interdisciplinary contributions from computational scientists, biomedical researchers, clinicians, pharmaceutical scientists, and data scientists are especially encouraged.

All manuscripts will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and, if accepted, will be published in the Special Issue of Biomolecules. Detailed submission guidelines can be found on the journal’s website.

We hope this Special Issue will serve as a platform for sharing cutting-edge research and fostering collaborations that advance digital twin technologies toward real-world biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.

If you are interested in contributing, please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the scope or suitability of your manuscript.

Thank you for considering this invitation. We look forward to your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomolecules is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
