Dear Colleagues,
Neurotrophin receptors, including the tropomyosin receptor kinases TrkA, TrkB, and TrkC, as well as p75NTR, interact with their respective ligands: nerve growth factor (NGF) primarily binds to TrkA; brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) binds to TrkB; and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) preferentially binds to TrkC. These receptor/ligand interactions play essential roles in neuronal survival and differentiation during brain development and adulthood, as well as in synaptic plasticity, the maintenance of synaptic integrity, and long-term potentiation (LTP). In addition, neurotrophin receptors are involved in mediating neuroprotective signaling pathways in various neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s disease. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms underlying neurotrophin receptor function in both healthy and pathological states is of great importance and may contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies for future clinical applications.
We invite you to contribute to the Special Issue of Biology, titled “Neurotrophin Receptor in Neurological Diseases”. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for high-quality research articles and reviews on neurotrophin receptor signaling in health and neurological diseases. It will encompass pathological mechanisms and explore potential innovative therapeutic strategies, using both in vitro and in vivo mouse models of neurological disorders. The content aligns with the journal’s neuroscience biology scope, emphasizing molecular, cellular, and translational studies that elucidate underlying mechanisms and offer potential clinical applications.
Authors may submit reviews, short communications, and full-length research articles. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following: neurotrophin receptors mediated signaling pathways and mechanisms of neuroprotection; the maintenance of synaptic integrity in various neurodegenerative diseases; innovative therapeutic strategies targeting these receptors; and the roles of protein misfolding, synaptic dysfunction, mitochondrial impairment, and neuroinflammation.
