Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Viral infections in animals pose significant challenges to global health, agriculture, and biodiversity. Many emerging infectious diseases originate from animal reservoirs, highlighting the need to understand the mechanisms behind viral pathogenesis and host immunity. Viruses employ sophisticated strategies to evade immune responses, manipulate host cellular pathways, and establish persistent infections, often leading to severe disease outcomes. The study of viral infections in animals is not only essential in veterinary medicine but also provides crucial insights into zoonotic spillover events and potential pandemic threats.

Recent advancements in molecular virology, immunology, and high-throughput sequencing have expanded our understanding of virus–host interactions, revealing novel antiviral defense mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets. However, critical gaps remain in our knowledge of viral evolution, cross-species transmission, and immune evasion strategies. Addressing these challenges requires an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating virology, immunology, genomics, and epidemiology.

This Special Issue will showcase cutting-edge research that advances our understanding of viral infections in animals, fostering the development of novel vaccines, antiviral strategies, and disease control measures. By deepening our knowledge in this field, we can better safeguard both animal and human health.

For this Special Issue, submissions of original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) virus–host interactions; antiviral immunity; and the mechanisms behind viral pathogenesis. This Special Issue will enhance our understanding of viral pathogenesis and immunity, contributing to the development of innovative solutions to combat animal viral diseases and their implications for public health.
