Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Ultrasound-guided technologies have become powerful tools for advancing biomedical research and clinical practice due to their non-invasive nature, real-time imaging capabilities, portability, and cost-effectiveness. This Special Issue, titled "Ultrasound-Guided Platform for Biomedical Applications," highlights recent innovations, methodologies, and translational studies that utilize ultrasound as both a diagnostic and therapeutic tool across various biomedical fields.
The scope of this issue includes, but is not limited to:
- Ultrasound-guided drug delivery and targeted therapies.
- Image-guided and minimally invasive interventions with real-time navigation.
- Ultrasound-mediated neuromodulation and tissue stimulation.
- AI-driven ultrasound—automated interpretation, segmentation, and landmark detection.
- Learning paradigms for limited data, including semi-/weakly supervised learning and foundation models.
- Robotic-assisted ultrasound and human–robot collaboration in clinical settings.
- Real-time quality assessment and skill evaluation for sonographers.
- Multimodal imaging—fusion with CT, MRI, fluorescence, and wearable sensors.
- Emerging technologies—photoacoustic, Doppler, and functional ultrasound innovations.
- Smart and accessible systems—portable low-cost devices, AI-assisted decision support, and automated clinical workflows.
Contributions addressing fundamental mechanisms, engineering advancements, preclinical models, and clinical applications are all encouraged.
By uniting interdisciplinary efforts from engineering, medicine, biology, and data science, this Special Issue seeks to promote the development of next-generation ultrasound-guided platforms that enhance precision, safety, and therapeutic efficacy in biomedical applications. Ultimately, it aims to accelerate the translation of innovative ultrasound-based technologies from the laboratory to clinical practice.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
