Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has led to transformative advancements that hold immense potential for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases, characterized by the immune system mistakenly attacking the body's own tissues, encompass a diverse range of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis. The complex and multifactorial nature of these diseases presents significant challenges in understanding their etiology, predicting their course, and individualizing treatment options. AI technologies offer promising solutions by enabling the analysis of vast datasets, facilitating pattern recognition, and improving predictive analytics.

AI approaches, including machine learning and deep learning, have been applied to various aspects of autoimmune disease research and clinical practice. From biomarker discovery and patient stratification to treatment response prediction, AI-driven methodologies have the capacity to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms and optimize therapeutic interventions. Machine learning algorithms can uncover hidden relationships within clinical data, while natural language processing can extract relevant information from the medical literature and clinical notes. Furthermore, AI can aid in the development of personalized medicine by enabling the identification of patient subgroups that respond differently to treatments, thereby facilitating tailored therapeutic strategies.

This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research and insights into the application of AI technologies in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of autoimmune diseases. We encourage the submission of contributions that encompass a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, AI-driven diagnostic tools, predictive modeling for disease progression, personalized treatment approaches, and ethical considerations in the deployment of AI in clinical settings. Through this collaborative effort, we aim to foster knowledge exchange and innovation, advancing the developments in bioengineering in the context of autoimmune diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
