Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global drive toward electrified transportation and renewable energy storage has placed all solid-state batteries (ASSBs) at the forefront of next-generation energy storage. ASSBs offer superior energy density and safety over traditional lithium-ion batteries, yet they face critical challenges in materials design, interface stability, mechanical degradation, multiphysics coupling, safety, characterization, and scalable manufacturing. These challenges require interdisciplinary integration of materials science, solid mechanics, electrochemistry, and artificial intelligence, making this research area highly urgent and impactful for both academic innovation and industrial translation. 

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to advanced materials and structures for all solid-state batteries. We consider contributions addressing innovative material design, interface engineering, mechanical characterization, multiphysics modeling and simulation, safety evaluation, AI-driven discovery, and scalable manufacturing technologies that advance the fundamental understanding and practical development of all solid-state batteries.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advanced inorganic/polymer composite solid electrolytes and structural design
  • Electrode–electrolyte interface engineering and stability modulation
  • Solid mechanics and mechanical degradation mechanisms in solid-state batteries
  • Multiphysics modeling of ion transport, stress evolution, and electrochemical coupling
  • In situ / operando characterization techniques and mechanical property evaluation
  • Safety design, failure analysis, and risk assessment of all solid-state batteries
  • AI and machine learning for material discovery, performance prediction, and state estimation
  • Scalable manufacturing, processing, and engineering of solid-state battery components
  • Innovative structural designs for high-energy-density and mechanically robust ASSBs
  • Multiscale modeling and simulation across atomic, micro, and cell levels

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Batteries is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
