Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming a significant part of our everyday lives, connecting physical devices like sensors, appliances, and machines to the internet. It is used in many areas such as healthcare, farming, transport, and smart homes, making systems more efficient, automated, and intelligent. For example, in agriculture, IoT sensors can monitor soil conditions, track crop health, and control irrigation systems automatically, helping farmers use resources more effectively.
IoT has grown rapidly in recent years thanks to better wireless technology, smaller and cheaper sensors, and more powerful cloud computing. Today, there are billions of connected devices, and this number will continue to rise as technologies like 5G and edge computing improve. This fast growth underscores the importance of IoT, but it also brings new challenges around data security and the smooth growth of systems.
This Special Issue aims to showcase recent advances and emerging research on the Internet of Things (IoT). It will provide a platform for researchers and engineers to share innovative ideas, practical solutions, and real-world applications across a range of domains, including smart homes, healthcare, agriculture, industry, and urban systems. We welcome contributions that highlight novel IoT technologies, scalable system designs, and impactful deployments that reflect the growing importance of IoT in modern connected environments, especially those that integrate technical research with practical applications. This Special Issues invites the submission of reviews, original theoretical and practical research articles, and data reports. Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Large Language Models (LLMs) for Intelligent IoT: on-device inference, communication, and sensing;
- Security and privacy challenges related to LLMs in IoT environments;
- Machine learning and AI for wireless sensing applications;
- Security and privacy in wireless sensing systems;
- Joint communication and sensing in IoT environments;
- Precision agriculture using IoT sensors for soil monitoring, crop health, and automated irrigation systems;
- IoT-enabled real-time monitoring of mining equipment and environmental conditions;
- IoT-based connected vehicle systems for traffic management, predictive maintenance, and enhanced driver safety;
- IoT-enabled remote patient monitoring and wearable health devices for real-time diagnostics and personalized care;
- Advanced IoT security frameworks for threat detection, data privacy, and secure device authentication;
- Integration of IoT with SCADA systems for real-time telemetry, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance in industrial automation.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied System Innovation is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
