Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue is a continuation of our previous Special Issue entitled ‘Research on Endodontic Treatment Methods and Materials’.
In recent years we have witnessed remarkable advancements in dental sciences and related technologies, leading to a complete redefinition of endodontics. What was once primarily associated with root canal therapy has evolved into a sophisticated and multidimensional field of dentistry. Today, endodontics incorporates cutting-edge innovations such as surgical microscopes, high-resolution digital imaging, and computer-assisted, patient-specific guided surgery. These tools have significantly expanded clinicians’ capabilities, improving the predictability and success of preserving natural teeth.
In addition to these technological strides, two areas have come to the forefront: surgical endodontics and regenerative endodontics. Surgical endodontics has been revolutionized by microsurgical techniques and biocompatible materials, allowing for precise interventions and enhanced healing outcomes. Meanwhile, regenerative endodontics represents an exciting frontier, aiming not only to preserve but to biologically restore the vitality of the pulp–dentin complex using stem cell-based and tissue-engineering approaches.
This Special Issue seeks to present a comprehensive overview of the most recent research across all aspects of endodontics, with special attention to these transformative domains. From fundamental bench studies to translational and clinical research, the Issue highlights innovations that are shaping the future of endodontic care.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Static and dynamic navigation in endodontic surgery.
- The role and diagnostic accuracy of digital (CBCT) imaging in endodontics.
- The advantages and limitations of emerging technologies.
- Clinical outcomes: success, survival, and prognosis in endodontic treatment.
- Novel materials and material-related challenges.
- Preclinical investigations into regenerative techniques and surgical innovations in endodontics.
We invite researchers and clinicians alike to contribute to this Special Issue and help illuminate the path forward in one of the most rapidly evolving areas of modern dentistry.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
