Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to explore the recent advances in materials development and processing through interdisciplinarity, emphasizing industrial applicability and sustainability-driven innovation.

This Special Issue will bring together contributions that bridge fundamental materials science, engineering design, and real-world implementation, focusing on how novel materials and processing routes can address current industrial and environmental challenges.

Particular attention will be given to the following:

  • Integration of multi-disciplinary approaches (materials science, chemistry, physics, engineering, data science).
  • Development of scalable and industry-ready materials.
  • Sustainable strategies including resource efficiency, recyclability, and low-impact processing.
  • Correlation between processing–structure–properties–performance.

This Special Issue will distinguish itself by explicitly integrating three traditionally fragmented dimensions of materials research: interdisciplinary design, industrial implementation, and sustainability performance.

Unlike conventional collections that focus solely on material properties or processing techniques, this Special Issue will emphasize the full innovation chain, from material conception to industrial deployment under sustainability constraints. It aims to provide a coherent framework linking processing–structure–performance–application–impact, thereby addressing a critical gap between laboratory-scale research and real-world adoption.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
