Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, entitled “Steel Structures for Large-Span Bridges and Structures: Current Progress”, focuses on large-span and large-scale steel structures, which play a crucial role in modern building construction and infrastructure, offering strength, flexibility, and durability for buildings, bridges, and other engineering structures. This Special Issue explores recent advancements not only in the design, analysis, and maintenance but also in the construction processes and techniques used in building steel structures.

Key topics of interest include innovative structural systems for buildings, high-performance steel materials, advanced fabrication and construction methodologies, and on-site assembly techniques that ensure quality and speed in building projects. Contributions addressing computational modeling, fatigue and fracture mechanics, seismic resilience, and optimization strategies for structural performance in building applications are highly encouraged.

The Special Issue also highlights emerging trends such as smart monitoring systems, digital construction workflows, and sustainable design practices aimed at enhancing the safety, efficiency, and longevity of steel structures in buildings. We welcome research on experimental investigations, numerical simulations, and real-world applications, including case studies of innovative steel buildings and construction practices.

Interdisciplinary approaches integrating artificial intelligence, digital twins, robotics, and novel construction technologies for steel building projects are particularly relevant. This Special Issue aims to provide researchers, engineers, architects, and construction professionals with insights into the latest progress and future directions in steel structures for modern buildings. Contributions that push the boundaries of steel structural engineering and meet the evolving demands of the building industry are highly encouraged.

We invite you to publish scientific and review articles on the development, design, and construction of steel building structures and bridges.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
