Dear Colleagues,
Networked autonomous systems—encompassing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous ground vehicles, robotic swarms, and cyber-physical systems—are increasingly deployed in complex, dynamic, and safety-critical environments. As these systems evolve from isolated entities to highly interconnected networks, ensuring their safety, reliability, and resilience against uncertainties, faults, and adversarial attacks has become a paramount challenge. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) offer transformative potential for enhancing the autonomy and intelligence of these systems. However, the integration of data-driven methods into safety-critical control loops introduces new vulnerabilities. Issues such as data poisoning, adversarial examples, model uncertainty, and communication latency can compromise system integrity. Therefore, the development of AI methods that are not only high-performing but also verifiable, robust, and resilient is essential for the next generation of autonomous networks. This Special Issue aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to present state-of-the-art developments in AI for safe and resilient networked autonomous systems. We invite submissions that explore the intersection of control theory, cybersecurity, and machine learning to create systems capable of operating reliably under adverse conditions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: Safe reinforcement learning and control Resilience against cyber-physical attacks Fault detection, isolation, and recovery in autonomous systems Formal verification and validation of AI-based controllers Robust perception and sensor fusion under uncertainty Secure multi-agent coordination and consensus Human-in-the-loop autonomy and shared control AI for collision avoidance and trajectory planning Resilient communication networks for autonomous systems Trustworthy and explainable AI in robotics Digital twins for safety assessment and monitoring Edge AI for real-time decision making Bio-inspired resilient control strategies Ethical considerations in autonomous decision making

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
