Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In recent decades, environmental pollution has escalated to alarming levels due to industrialization, urbanization, and increased human activity, leading to widespread ecological and public health concerns. Among the most detrimental effects of environmental pollution is the induction of oxidative stress, which is recognized as a central mechanism driving a wide range of diseases, affecting not only respiratory and cardiovascular health but also neurological, metabolic, and immune functions.
This Special Issue will enable a more comprehensive understanding of the pathways through which environmental pollutants induce oxidative damage at the molecular, cellular, and systemic levels, including but not limited to the following major issues relevant to this topic: (1) how environmental contaminants impact oxidative stress and oxidative damage; (2) the role of antioxidants in the biological process; (3) preventive measures that can modify their effects. We expand this scope to include a diverse range of environmental pollutants—including air pollution, soil contaminants, waterborne toxins, and noise pollution—that contribute to oxidative stress. Emerging contaminants will be prioritized.
This Special Issue will synthesize a broad spectrum of both experimental and epidemiological studies, including those conducted in vulnerable populations. Contributions to this Special Issue will explore innovative models, experimental approaches, and potential therapeutic interventions to mitigate oxidative stress induced by environmental pollution. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the urgent need for integrated environmental and health policies to reduce pollution and its oxidative impacts on human health.
