Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Soil health has emerged as a central framework for improving agricultural productivity while addressing environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and ecosystem services. This Special Issue, Building Synergistic Agricultural Systems through Soil Health-Centered Management, aims to highlight research and practice that integrate soil health principles into diverse cropping and farming systems to enhance system-level performance.

We invite contributions that explore how soil health–centered strategies—such as organic amendments, cover cropping, reduced tillage, crop diversification, biological inputs, integrated nutrient management, and integrated pest management (IPM)—can work together to create synergies among soil, plant, microbial, and environmental processes. Studies may address agronomic productivity, nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, water dynamics, pest and disease regulation, and environmental outcomes, as well as economic and management implications for farmers.

This Special Issue welcomes field-based, laboratory, modeling, and participatory research, along with case studies and synthesis papers. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary work that connects soil health indicators to crop performance, ecosystem services, and long-term system resilience. By bringing together research across scales and production systems, this Special Issue seeks to advance practical and science-based pathways for building resilient, productive, and environmentally responsible agricultural systems through soil health–centered management.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
